Mercy’s Arms by Gladys Knight

In April 2010, a couple friends and I held a Light the World: Birthing Your Destiny Retreat in Zion National Park. Fifteen incredible women attended who have become some of my dearest friends. When I look back over my life, this event will stand as a centerpiece, highlighting wonderfully fond memories.

Each day of the retreat featured music, performed by Jamie Bartschi. I hand-picked the songs prior to the event to match the themes for each day. For one of the days, I really wanted her to perform “Mercy’s Arms,” which was written by Julie de Azevedo Hanks. But Jamie couldn’t find the music.

On the day that song would have been performed, one of the ladies attending the retreat asked if she could play a song as the evening’s activities ended. I agreed, without knowing what she intended to play. Imagine my astonishment as she sat down at the piano and began to sing a soul-stirring version of “Mercy’s Arms!” This was one of many miracles that unfolded that week. I am so grateful for a loving and merciful Father who takes care of our needs and desires down to the smallest details … even to arranging for a single song.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I do. It’s one of my all-time favorites. This version is performed by Gladys Knight.
